What is Cabinet Refacing?

With our cabinet refacing program, homeowners can receive the benefits of new cabinets without the hassle of a full cabinet replacement. Cabinet refacing will not only radically transform the appearance of your kitchen or bath but also increase your home’s value. Through our cabinet refacing program, we will remove your worn, scratched, or outdated cabinets and leave you with an exceptionally restored cabinet system.

With no need to start from scratch, our professional installers will keep the “bones” of your cabinet system in place and replace all remaining cabinet elements. The cabinet refacing process is simple, straightforward, and effective in updating any room in your home to be as good as new.

Have we mentioned cabinet refacing doesn’t come anywhere close to the cost of new cabinets?

Creating a brand-new look with cabinet refacing gives you the freedom to save your budget for other updates. Along with savings, cabinet refacing takes only three to four days, allowing you to skip the trouble and disruption of a full-scale remodel. MKD will be in and out, leaving behind the kitchen of your dreams, and have you asking yourself why you didn’t do it sooner!

The Cabinet Refacing Process

At MKD, we are a full-service kitchen cabinet refacing provider, which means you can rest easy knowing we will be walking you through the entirety of your project. Outlined below is the process involved with the purchase of cabinet refacing – it’s that simple!

01

Consultation

The cabinet refacing process begins from the comfort of your home! We will send one of our Design Consultants to your home to review the materials, measure, and prepare a quote. During the consultation, you will review a variety of different door styles, product options, hardware and plumbing options, as well as our signature countertop collection.
02

Measure

A Field Engineer will be scheduled to complete a professional measure of your kitchen prior to ordering the refacing material. A review of the material selection and confirmation will take place. Following the survey, the Field Engineer will be available to answer any technical questions or concerns you have regarding the refacing process or materials.
03

Countertop Replacement

During the refacing consultation, we strongly recommend replacing your countertop if you are at all considering a new surface now or in the near future. That way, if any damage is made to the existing cabinets it can be treated prior to installation. If a countertop replacement was purchased, the existing countertop is removed and the new top is installed prior to refacing the cabinets.
04

Install

On the day of installation, our install crews will remove the existing cabinet drawer and door fronts. In addition, the crews will prepare the space and cabinet boxes for the cabinet refacing application. The new veneer is placed over the existing cabinet box surface and new doors, drawers, and hardware are installed. In total, the cabinet refacing installation can be completed in most instances in as little as three days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cabinet Refacing is a quick and cost-effective solution to a full remodel. In just a few days, MKD Kitchen and Bath can update the look of your kitchen by replacing doors, drawer fronts, and hardware, and applying a new finish to the existing cabinet boxes. It’s a less invasive, faster, and more affordable option than full cabinet replacement.

Cabinet refacing is an excellent solution if you’re satisfied with your kitchen layout and want to refresh the look of your cabinets. Refacing offers flexibility, including the option to keep your existing countertops intact if desired. Unlike a full remodel—which involves removing the existing cabinets and allows for layout changes—refacing keeps the cabinet structure in place while giving it a fresh, modern appearance. It’s also typically more cost-effective, less disruptive, and faster than a complete replacement.

On Average, the refacing process takes 3-5 days to complete, depending on the size of the kitchen and customization options chosen.

Please note: For projects that are part of a larger renovation, the 3 to 5-day installation timeline may not apply.

No, we do not refinish or paint your existing cabinet doors and drawers. Our cabinet refacing service involves replacing them with brand new doors and drawer fronts, ensuring a fresh, updated look and better durability. By installing new materials on your cabinet boxes, we create the appearance of a full remodel without the need for refinishing or painting. This approach guarantees long-lasting results and improved functionality.

Our cabinet refacing service includes brand new doors, drawers, hardware, hinges, and veneer, all custom-measured and built to perfectly complement the new style and color of your kitchen.

Included in our service:

  • New doors and drawers
  • Soft-close hinges and slides
  • Mouldings
  • Matching toe kick

Additional options available:

  • Hardware
New countertops, backsplash, sink, and faucets
  • Island additions or extra cabinets
  • Kitchen cabinet valance additions
  • Over-the-range hood installation

Yes, cabinet refacing can increase the value of your home more than cabinet refinishing or painting. It offers a return on investment nearly equivalent to a full remodel. However, it’s important to note that the interior of your cabinets is not refaced, so potential buyers may be able to tell the difference between refacing and a complete replacement. Nonetheless, it remains a cost-effective way to boost your home’s appeal and value.

Cabinet refacing is typically 30-50% less expensive than a full remodel, making it a cost-effective option for many homeowners looking to update their kitchen without a large renovation budget.

With proper care, refaced cabinets can last for decades. To ensure longevity, it’s important to avoid prolonged exposure to water and use the appropriate cleaning solutions recommended for your specific cabinet refacing materials. Regular maintenance will help preserve the fresh look and functionality of your cabinets for many years to come.

Cabinet refacing primarily focuses on the appearance and functionality of existing cabinets, so the layout generally remains the same. However, you can add new cabinets, shelving, or other modifications if desired and within reason.

Yes, refacing is a more eco-friendly option as it reuses existing cabinet structures, reducing waste associated with a complete tear-out and minimizing the use of new materials.
